Robotic Urological Surgery
Robotic-assisted surgery has become an established treatment option for selected urological conditions, particularly prostate cancer and certain reconstructive procedures.
Dr Roger performs robotic-assisted surgery using the da Vinci Xi Surgical System at Prince Court Medical Centre and is a certified da Vinci Xi user.
Although commonly referred to as “robotic surgery”, the robotic system does not perform the operation independently. Every movement is controlled entirely by the surgeon. The technology provides high-definition three-dimensional visualisation together with wristed instruments that allow precise movements within confined anatomical spaces.
Successful robotic-assisted surgery depends on careful patient selection, meticulous surgical planning, sound clinical judgement, precise surgical technique, and comprehensive postoperative care—not the robotic system alone. Every operation begins with careful review of MRI findings, biopsy results, PSA levels, previous medical history, and the patient’s treatment priorities.
For appropriately selected patients, robotic-assisted surgery may offer benefits such as:

Fellowship in Paediatric Urology
Dr Roger completed fellowship training in Paediatric Urology at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), London, United Kingdom.
Working within one of the world’s leading specialist children’s hospitals, he gained experience in the assessment and management of complex congenital and acquired paediatric urological conditions alongside multidisciplinary specialist teams.
During his fellowship, he also completed the Practical Course in Robotic/Laparoscopic Urology & Paediatric Urology at Aarhus University Hospital, Denmark, further broadening his experience in minimally invasive urological surgery and paediatric urology.
Although his current practice focuses on adult urology, this fellowship strengthened his understanding of reconstructive surgery, meticulous tissue handling, and comprehensive patient care.
Certified da Vinci Xi User
Dr Roger is certified by Intuitive for the da Vinci Xi Surgical System and performs robotic-assisted urological procedures at Prince Court Medical Centre for appropriately selected patients.
He continues to update his surgical knowledge and skills through ongoing education and professional collaboration.
Advanced Course in da Vinci Robotic Urology
Dr Roger has completed an advanced course in da Vinci robotic urology at IRCAD Taiwan, further strengthening his technical knowledge and practical understanding of robotic-assisted urological procedures.
Learning From International Centres
Dr Roger believes that surgical learning continues throughout a consultant’s career.
To further develop his knowledge of robotic prostatectomy, he completed a three-week International Clinical Observership at Tung’s Taichung MetroHarbor Hospital in Taiwan under the mentorship of Professor Yen-Chuan Ou.
The observership provided exposure to advanced robotic prostatectomy techniques within a high-volume robotic surgery centre using both the da Vinci Xi and da Vinci Single Port (SP) platforms.
