International Observership in Robotic Prostatectomy
Learning from Professor Yen-Chuan Ou at Tung's Taichung MetroHarbor Hospital, Taiwan

Dr Roger Anthony Idi completed a three-week observership at Tung’s Taichung MetroHarbor Hospital, Taiwan, under Professor Yen-Chuan Ou. The hospital is home to the International Education and Observation Center for Single-Port Robotic Surgery, formally recognised by Intuitive Surgical as an official da Vinci SP Urology Observation Center, and is equipped with both the da Vinci Xi and da Vinci SP (Single Port) robotic surgical systems.
During the attachment, he observed robotic-assisted prostatectomy, multidisciplinary prostate cancer care, perioperative management and advances in robotic surgical technology.
Continuing to Learn from International Centres

Dr Roger Anthony Idi completed a three-week observership at Tung’s Taichung MetroHarbor Hospital in Taichung, Taiwan, under the mentorship of Professor Yen-Chuan Ou, an internationally recognised robotic urological surgeon with extensive experience in robotic prostatectomy and urologic oncology.
The programme focused primarily on robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer, while also providing opportunities to observe multidisciplinary collaboration, perioperative care, and advances in robotic surgical technology.
Learning at an Official da Vinci SP Urology Observation Center
The hospital is home to the International Education and Observation Center for Single-Port Robotic Surgery and was formally certified by Intuitive Surgical as an official da Vinci SP Urology Observation Center.
Equipped with both the da Vinci Xi multi-port and da Vinci SP robotic surgical systems, the centre allows visiting surgeons to gain experience with both robotic platforms while gaining insight into how each may be applied in different clinical situations.
Professor Yen-Chuan Ou is internationally recognised for his work in robotic urologic oncology. In addition to his clinical practice, he has contributed extensively to robotic surgery through research, education and numerous peer-reviewed publications. He currently serves as Dean of the Research, Development and Innovation Center at Tung’s Taichung MetroHarbor Hospital and has played an important role in advancing robotic urological surgery and surgeon education in Taiwan.
